God is constantly creating anew. And God also, invites us to be re-created and join the work of God as co-(re)creators. . . . Imagine the Kingdom of God as the creative process of God reengaging in all that we know and experience. . . . When we employ creativity to make this world better, we participate with God in the recreation of the world. -- Doug Pagitt
Are you the creative type? Do you like to make things out of nothing? Do you like to repair or restore broken things - you and God have that in common - because so does God. God loves to make new things out of old things. God loves to create restored beauty out of people that have been thrown away.
Maybe today if you're reading this you feel like you need a new beginning or a fresh start - can I tell you that God is ready to "create a new heart in you"... God is ready to "create a new life from an old one"... God is ready to give you that fresh start that you are looking for.
8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us brand new in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
I want you to know that you can start over. I want you to know that today is a new day and in this day - you can find restoration. You can be made new. I want you to stay with me... keep reading!
From the beginning to the end...
From the very beginning to the very end - God is fighting for you. God desires for you to be new and for you to throw off everything that holds you back. God wants the very best for you in this coming year. God desires for you to move forward and not look back. God has been there (even when we don't see or feel it) - and God will continue to be there each step forward and each day from now. Today is a new day!
In the very first book of the Bible - Genesis - God paints us a picture of just how He wants to create a new heart in us. God paints us a picture of what restoration looks like.
20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.
Joseph - the perfect picture of Jesus in Genesis - reveals something about God. Joseph has been stripped of his "royal coat". He has been impacted by the sins of his brothers and his life has been taken from him due to the actions of others. But God has given us a picture of new life and restoration through Jospeh.
You see at the end of Jospeh's life - he is put in a position of power. The country is in deep trouble and people are starving from a famine. His brothers (who sold him) come to find help - Joseph does what Jesus wants to do for you - He helps them - Joseph doesn't hold their past against them and neither does Jesus hold you past against you.
Joseph reveals something central to the heart of Jesus: He makes beautiful things out of ugly things, he makes old things new, he makes beautiful things out of the dust! Jesus takes the harmful motivations and hurtful actions in our lives and weaves them into something brand new - the cool thing about Jesus - He does that in front of our very eyes. Jesus has always been with us and Jesus will always be with us...
16 So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now! 17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
The question is - are you with Jesus! I pray that you will find your fresh beginning today! I hope that you know that your past does not define you. Let me speak to those of you today that have grown up in church, but find yourself not wanting to be around "church people" - let me speak to you - you don't have to have all the answers - you don't have to have it all together - but you do need Jesus and you do need people who care!
It's not about coming to church or doing church things - it is however about being around people who love you for you. It is about being around people who will help you make every day a new day - to show you grace - to show you compassion - who will also love you enough to walk with you as you live your life with Jesus! Jesus is waiting and so are we!
Today I hope you know that Jesus wants to make a beautiful thing out of your life - is it time that you join in on the creative power of God - the power to make old things new and the power to make beautiful things out of ugly things! Your life matters! So do You!
All this pain
I wonder if I’ll ever find my way
I wonder if my life could really change at all
All this earth
Could all that is lost ever be found
Could a garden come up from this ground at all
You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of the dust
You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of us
