PURE PRAISE - Week 1 Update

Worship Changes Us...

Worship is a way of life...

Dwayne Moore in his book "Pure Praise" said: "I vividly remember the moment I first realized the awesome power of praise. It was both amazing and life changing." Over the next several week at First Christian Church of Scottsburg, we will be taking an in depth look at what PURE PRAISE looks like in our lives and how we can live out a life of praise. Each week I will be posting here an update from our Sunday Services with some questions to help us continue to focus on the weekends lesson. I hope that you will take the time to spend it with God and I want to invite you to join us each week during this sermon series. I truly do believe that Worship Changes Us!

Psalm 103:1-5 New Living Translation (NLT)

Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. 2 Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. 3 He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. 4 He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. 5 He fills my life with good things.

When I think about praise and giving God praise, I'm drawn to the fact that God has given me so much and my life has been filled with "good things". I am drawn to know that the God who created the entire world - intimately wants to bless me - that causes me to praise God and to show my gratitude and thankfulness. But what happens when things don't go right? Will I continue to praise God. Take a look at this...

Daily Surrender: Ask God to reveal any of your actions or attitudes that are not honoring to him. Write them down in your journal; then ask God to forgive you and help you worship him in a brand new way, with a different attitude - praising God in everything - good and not so good!

A future that depends on God's faithfulness - not my faithfulness...

Some day in the future, I will see Jesus face to face. Some day in the future I will be able to fully understand how to worship, but until then my daily life is in God's hands. 1 Peter 2:9 states that, "You are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God's very own possession." We are in the hands of God and our future was determined by the faithfulness of the Father and the Son. H.A. Ironside said: "...it has been the delight of God's heart to show great grace to great sinners."

In moments like this I'm drawn closer to my God because of His great grace. He has truly brought me out of the valley of dry bones - He is truly the God that saves and God has rescued me. This in of its self should cause me to want to praise Him... even in times that are not (in my flesh) praise worthy.

Romans 12:1-2 (NLT)

12 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Daily Surrender: God wants a simple act of worship - to give him our lives - our walking around-going to work-picking up the kids-eating dinner-talking at work-in the quiet moments life (God wants it all)... our simple act of worship is to surrender because of all that God has done for us. God wants our hearts yielded to him, pure and simple.

As we lay our lives down for him to fill back up and to use, we become expressions of praise to Him. Considering we were designed to bring God glory, such an act of service and surrender is very reasonable - even in our crazy world.

Write a prayer today of surrender - Ask God to sing "victory" over you today... because we are truly His "sons and daughters" - God has paid for our victory... maybe we can begin walking in "HIS FAITHFULNESS" so that we will learn how to be faithful ourselves...

Iron Bell Adoration Project: When we learn how to adore the Lord, we are saturated in His presence and filled with the word of the Lord. Suddenly all circumstances are seen through the perspective of who God is. We discover the God who leads us, is a shepherd and is a friend - and the best thing is we haven’t even asked Him for a thing yet - [we are just living in who He is - not what He’s done for us.]
