WHEN IT RAINS IT POURS

The Blessings of a Good God!

Well I'm not up on today's country music, but I did hear a song just the day by Luke Combs (my son asked me - "Dad you don't know Luke Combs, man your old" - and I said, yes son..... I'm that old!). Anyway... I heard the song "When It Rains It Pours" for the first time...

Now before we get too far along... this song is about a bad breakup and how one guy turns it around in true redneck fasion. Initially heartbroken, he quickly realizes that losing his girlfriend brings unexpected blessings. He wins the lottery, scores free drinks, finds a fishing spot, and generally has everything go his way. The song embraces a lighthearted, silver-lining perspective, celebrating the idea that even tough times can lead to unexpected good fortune.

Not that I would say that this is a great way to come off of a breakup or bad day however the idea that blessings comes in waves is a great thing. Now when most of us hear the phrase "When It Rains It Pours" we focus on the negitive things of life. But for this one ole dude - I like to think about the positive things of life and how they do come in waves when you are living with Jesus.

I guess you could say that I was that guy that would stop by the gas station near I-65 on my way home from a bad day (for those of you that know - Yes - It was Julians). But that would change. I did find Jesus and I was able to realize, now some 30 years later, that life is always better with Jesus. Is life always good - NO. There are still those tough days and days that I'd like to just simply startover. There are even a few days I'd like to forget. And YES, there are those moments when "Jesus has left the building". But man there are those days that are full of nothing but pure joy and blessing and in those days its great to be in the RAIN!

As we move into another week of rethinking the church and what "church" is really all about I'd like for us to do something this weekend before we get to Sunday morning... I would like for us to reflect on some Bible verses and take a few moments on the times in our lives that God SENT THE RAIN and IT POURED! It poured with blessings, goodness, joy and celebration! As we say around FCC - I want us to think about all those times God brought us across HOMEPLATE! Here are a few verses to think about...

Romans 8:28
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose."

As you reflect on this verse... Know that God is always working even in the hard times and difficult moments. Our Father in Heaven can lead us out of the wilderness and into the blessed life. It's a great reminder that even difficult situations can lead to good outcomes when viewed through the eyes of Jesus.

James 1:2-3
"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance."

As we reflect, James reminds us that finding joy in struggles is a possibiltiy. As a follower of Jesus I can know that my trust and life in Jesus can produce growth and blessings through trials. And if I'm honest with myself, some of the most valuable lessons learned along the way have been in the midst of those trials. When it rains it pours - Thank You Father!

2 Corinthians 4:17
"For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all."

Genesis 50:20
"You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives."

Philippians 4:19
"And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus."

Malachi 3:10
"Test me in this," says the Lord Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it."

Matthew 6:33
"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

Don't forget this... "When It Rains It Pours" is not always a bad thing - God's blessings do come in waves. Some are loud and proud. While others are soft whispers passing by without fanfare. At times they are overwhelming. Other times they are hard to spot. But every time they are good! So keep your eyes open, your hearts awake and your minds focused. We just have to be willing to take the chance and follow Jesus. He doesn't disappoint! See you all Sunday... somewhere!
